Congress Trumped

Donald Trump addressed Congress in a speech actually written for him, and which was more or less coherent. It was most unlike the mindless rambling drivel he usually provides. The one thing from his speech of which some of the online trumpettes seem to be enamoured, is the tribute to the soldier killed in the Yemen raid. Like true trumpettes, they fell for it hook, line and sinker. The dead soldier’s wife, Carryn, was in the audience, with Ivanka Trump sitting beside her. None of the gullible trumpettes thought this was anything but genuine. I thought for a while that I was the only person who saw the cynical nature of this ploy. But, fortunately, I was not. It was a disgusting use of the death of a soldier and the grief of his wife, to make it appear as if Trump cares.

The soldier’s father was not so easily convinced, and wants an investigation, but the White House thinks that would be ‘disrespectful’ to the soldier’s memory. It is hard to imagine the thought processes which go on behind a statement so bereft of any legitimacy.

Trump, true to form, prior to the speech, in an interview with Faux News, he stated that the “mission…started before I got here” which was a lie. Obama deferred it so that Trump could decide whether to approve it or not. And then he blamed ‘the generals’ because they wanted to do it. He then stated in his usual idiotic style the “…generals, who are very respected. My generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades, I believe”. Then he said “and they lost Ryan”, not ‘we’, but ‘they’. It was Trump who approved the raid. It seems Trump is yet to understand the meaning of Truman’s aphorism “the buck stops here”. Indeed, he seems to try to dodge it at every opportunity. Trump also stated that much useful intelligence was obtained, but that has been contradicted by Pentagon officials, who have stated that the raid produced no significant intelligence.

Trump is a disgrace of a man, let alone as a president. He needs to be gotten rid of, because he is doing enormous damage to the US’ standing in the world, and to the nation itself.
