Murdoch media EV lies

By August 5, 2026Media, Technology

The Murdoch media’s slavering support of the Liberal Party and other far right causes, has led them to extremely stupid and hypocritical campaigns against EVs. This even got to the stage where the idiotic then PM Morrison said that it would end the weekend and that EVs did not have “grunt”1. The latter assertion has caused me, whenever first in line at the traffic lights, the gun my Kona EV such that it out-accelerates any fossil fuel engined vehicle. It is another one of my hobbies.

Murdoch hack Caroline Overington made a complete fool of herself when complaining about being forced to buy EVs2.This was followed by another Murdoch hack Chris Kenny showing he had little idea how long it takes to charge an EV3.

Recently, a study by researchers at the University of Queenslend (UQ)  involved collecting dust from balconies on homes around Brisbane and analysed that dust for chemicals associated with tyre wear, showing that traffic related pollution travelled from the streets to residential environments. The study provides the first quantitative evidence of tyre pollutants on people’s balconies, including a chemical called 6PPD-Quninone. This chemical is used in tyre production and has caused mass salmon mortality when it made its way into waterways4.

So what did the Murdoch media do? What they always do; they lied.  Brisbane’s Courier-Fail ran a headline implying that Electric vehicles were producing toxic tyre dust that was being found on balconies. The UQ study did not investigate whether the tyre particles came from EVs or fossil-fuelled cars.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Media Watch program noted that:

1. News Corp’s reporting incorrectly connected the findings to EVs.

2. After complaints and scrutiny, the Courier-Mail changed its headline and amended the story.

3. The revised version acknowledged that the Queensland study did not investigate electric vehicles, although it continued to speculate that heavier EVs could contribute more tyre wear in future5.

There was no mention of trucks, buses, large 4 wheel drives or anything else that weighs more than my Kona EV. This is just another case of the Murdoch media lying to its readers. The irony is, that the person the Murdoch media supports in the US, the Mango Paedo, has added to the uptake of EVs in Australia and many other places by his idiotic bombing of Iran6,7. You have to laugh.
