We had a ‘Trump got a kicking’ party yesterday, in the wake of the US midterm elections where all of the House of Representatives and one third of the Senate have to face the voters. When writing up a previous piece about the need to overcome Trump’s veto power1, the Democrats had 54 seats in the Senate, while the republicans held 44, with two seats yet to be decided. That is still the state of play in the Senate. For the House of Representatives, at the time of the previous post the Democrats had 249 seats, with republicans on 1571. Now the Democrats hold 254 seats, while the republicans hold 162, with 19 still to be decided.
At the party, I related a joke I had heard soon after the midterm voting had concluded. It went as follows:
After Donald Trump died and was buried, an Australian went to his local travel agent, and said, with a great deal of glee: “I want to go to the US to piss on Trump’s grave”. The travel agent replied: “Okay, we have had quite a few requests like this”. He looked it up on his computer and told the customer: “You will go from Sydney to Honolulu, then to Los Angeles, and on to Chicago. Will that be okay?” The customer replied: “Chicago; why Chicago? I heard he was buried in Mar-a-Lago in Florida”. The travel agent replied: “You are a bit late, Chicago is where the queue starts”.
Everybody laughed uproariously.
