A few days ago, TACO Trump gave Iran a 48 hour deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or he would obliterate their power plants1, despite attacking civilian infrastructure being a war crime.
However, the following day, when Iran stated that they would retaliate by striking the energy and desalination systems of its Gulf neighbours in retaliation if TACO followed through2, TACO backed off, stating that he would delay the attacks by 5 days due to “very good and productive conversations that could result in complete and total resolution” of the war1. He said these talks would continue “throughout the week”.
There was only one problem with this. Iran declared that there were no talks taking place. According to foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, “messages were received through some friendly countries indicating a US request for negotiations aimed at ending the war”. However, he denied that there were any “negotiations or talks with the United States during the past 24 days of the imposed war”1.
Trump did not specify who he had been talking with, but stated that it was a “top person” but was not Mojtaba Khamenei. He added “we’re dealing with the man who I believe is the most respected and the leader”1. As well as being poorly constructed, this is clearly bullshit.
The constant lying of TACO is now reaching even more ridiculous levels in that they can be easily demonstrated to be garbage, even for most of the politically illiterate. I find it hard to believe that someone as idiotic as Trump could be elected to such a position of power. The fact that it has happened in the US clearly indicates the system under which they operate is not fit for purpose.

“I find it hard to believe that someone as idiotic as Trump could be elected to such a position of power.”
I was just thinking the same today, with zero experience he becomes the Commander-in-Chief of the US Armed Forces.
In a country where 80% of people believe in angels it is no surprise that these gullible halfwits elect someone like Trump who lies every time he opens his horrible gob. Unless, of course, he has done so to stuff it with KFC or a Big Mac or a taco.
We have our own home grown stupidity, and I’m not talking about the red-headed xenophobe and her followers. An Australia Institute poll (2009 respondents from NSW, VIC, WA QLD) 12 months ago asked this question, among others:
Do you think Donald Trump being elected as President of the United States is a good or bad thing for Australia, the United States and the world? (three separate responses required/given)
19% of supposed LABOR voters answered that it was either a very good or a good thing for the world (58% said it was very bad or bad). Which, among other things shows that: (a) Ignorance is bliss; (b) The notion that any group has a uniform (or even informed, for that matter) view of any topic is complete nonsense. To wit, the ludicrous notion of total mandates following decisive federal elections; and (c) The folly of pollsters not asking a clarifying question at the very beginning – something like ‘how would you rate your knowledge of/interest in Trump’s actions and policies in the USA and elsewhere?’.
Jon,
It beggars belief that in the middle of a war, that he started, with his controller Netanyahu that some 30% plus of seppos still support the Mango Paedo. It is heartening to some degree that the percentage in Australia is considerably smaller.
Donald Duck and his lickspittles have no doubt been wallowing in the success of recovering the downed airman, and comparing it to ‘Top Gun Maverick’. My preferred movie is the ‘July 20 Plot (Operation Valkyrie) of 1944’, given the Duck is becoming more like Hitler every day.
Gordon,
The parallels are becoming more obvious.
Broadly speaking though, Australians generally get it right (forgot the links in my comment above) :

In general, Australians get it right, despite our apparent lack of interest in politics except at election time – something which I get the feeling is changing.
The corruption of the Trump administration continues apace, and still no reaction from the snivelling Republican cowards in congress:

Remember when the Republicans tried to impeach Biden for being involved in a (non-existent) conspiracy to enrich his family?
The last two pars starkly demonstrate their egregious hypocrisy and how dishonesty on a massive scale can quickly corrupt any country. As the truism goes: it’s only a scam if you’re not in on it.
———————————————–
From The Guardian, Robert Tait in Washington, Tue 20 Aug 2024 01.03 AEST:
In what was supposed to be a central theme of the GOP’s drive to derail Biden’s re-election effort, the report alleges that he was the architect and beneficiary of a lucrative influence-peddling scheme fronted by his son, Hunter, and brother, James.
The culmination of a months-long impeachment inquiry conducted by three Republican-led House of Representatives committees – the oversight, judiciary and ways and means panels – the report was timed to coincide with the opening of the Democratic national convention in Chicago, but it is now Kamala Harris, the vice-president, at the top of the ticket, not Biden.
Overwhelming evidence demonstrates that President Biden participated in a conspiracy to monetise his office of public trust to enrich his family,” the report states. “President Biden’s participation in this conspiracy to enrich his family constitutes impeachable conduct.”
It added: “The totality of the corrupt conduct uncovered by the Committees is egregious. President Joe Biden conspired to commit influence peddling and grift. In doing so, he abused his office and, by repeatedly lying about his abuse of office, has defrauded the United States to enrich his family.”
Jon,
Conservatives always accuse others of the crimes they, themselves, commit.
With the election of tRump this time, the process was correct, except for one fatal flaw that has yet to be suitably recognized and proven. He was, and is, an Insurrectionist, which bars him from even standing as a candidate. There was due process, but he kept managing to put sand in the gears and stalled the legal process. He then equates that with “innocence”. That flaw can be utilized to invalidate everything he has done, is doing, and will do, but not in such a timely fashion as should happen.
tRump is a classic blustering bully, who deserves a suitable put down, by legal means. It should result in him spending the rest of his life in an orange jumpsuit, and not in public. The other “option” is that his MacChucks diet leads to an early demise, and that the rest of the “enterprise” gets collapsed, especially including the Heritage Foundation, and the “Atlas Network”, look the latter up on Wikipedia, collapsing them will not be a walk in the park.
All his wealth, and that of family, and associates, needs to be confiscated by legal means to help at least minimalist repairing the deep harms they have done. That includes the “winnings” on Poly(wager?) (need to look up the name again) from insider information on the timing of too much in the conflict, wagers/bets obviously placed by individuals inside the misadministration that have yielded eye watering winnings, saw that they total into billions, or more.
They are worse than corrupt.
Iirc the stacked SCOTUS (and Jack Smith being slow and cautious) allowed Trump to nominate after at least one state refused his nomination. I haven’t seen it first hand but I read an exerpt from the constitution where the founding fathers made it unquestionably clear that no-one involved in insurrection should ever be able to stand. They were describing Trump to a tee. Given Trump’s clear involvement (now made even clearer by his pardons for all those convicted) it would have seemed OBVIOUS that the correct approach would be to bar his nomination pending outcome of the case against him, and inevitable appeals. However, even the Democrat SCOTUS appointees ruled that the states didn’t have legal power to invoke Section 3 (Insurrection) of the 14th Amendment. Republican dominated Congress COULD have done something but they’d already sold their souls to the devil, and that deal is currently stronger than ever.
Jon,
Unfortunately, many of the Democrats in Congress are under the misapprehension that the rules still apply, and seem unaware that there are no mechanisms for those who break the rules to be brought to heel.
Mark,
Lucy Hamilton, on Substack, has written a couple of articles on the labyrinthine arrangements between various organisations like the Atlas mob and their relationship with Australian front organisations. Ths is one of them: https://substack.com/home/post/p-190070412
Excellent article about belligerent “religious” zealots by Simon Tisdall and their threat to world order. So many truths.
